Eighteen Transgender Community members in Kerala have cleared the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA); for their secondary examination of the equivalency course in flying colors, to allow them to pursue further education and education. This is the first batch to clear the highest secondary equivalence (12th standard) test.
Kerala was the first country to apply the policy of ‘Samanwaya’ an educational initiative initiated by KSLMA; and the Department of Social Justice to incorporate the transgender community in 2018.
A total of 22 individuals participated in the review and 18 of the districts including Pathnamthitta; Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam cleared it up, according to a KSLMA Press Correspondence.
The Kerala University’s BA History Category is admissible to Karthick; an autorickshaw driver who cleared up the test, sources from KSLMA said. To date, a total of 39 individuals have completed the Class 10 equivalency course; from the transgender community and currently, 30 are following it. “In the higher secondary equivalence course, there are 62 transgender individuals,” said the statement.
“Through this arrangement, transgenes can continue education; which would enhance their job opportunities and help them to get jobs and thus have quality lives;” says the Department of Social Justice. “Through this scheme, transgender people can continue their training,” the Social Justice Ministry said.
The high rate of school or college declines as a result of social inequality; financial restrictions and lack of family support are some of the major problems faced by the transgender community.
