Many sellers and organizations in partnership with Flipkart have been able to leverage e-commerce to grow their business online, such are the stories of Rahul and Sumita. Rahul, who witnessed a 1.5x increase in sales recently during a sale event on the platform has expanded his product categories to come up with unique Rakhis for the upcoming festival. Sumita Bagchi is another inspirational example who works with 360 registered societies and Self-Help Groups in West Bengal and has been working along with various artisans to make cost-effective rakhi combo packs. Rahul is a 26-year-old seller hailing from Jaipur. He had always been fascinated by the
exquisite handmade arts produced in Rajasthan which prompted him to begin his journey of starting a business on his own, post his graduation in BCom.
In 2013, Rahul started manufacturing wooden products such as rakhis, wall hangings, key holders, photo frames and more. He traveled to different cities such as Bangalore, Chennai & Kerala in hopes to establish his business. He later came across e-commerce platforms and understood that in order to reach an extensive and diverse set of customers, digital presence was key. Rahul partnered with Flipkart in 2015, to expand his business further. Earlier, he used to receive about 40 orders per day but now he receives about 250 orders per day. He also witnessed a 1.5x increase in sales during the recent Samarth sale event.
Rahul also further expanded his product categories to include over 20 designs of handmade rakhis made by about 15-25 local artisans. Recently, Flipkart provided him intel on how he can price the rakhis to increase his business, by offering combo rakhi packs with cups, mugs and keychains. “A lot of customers are purchasing these combo packs and we are witnessing great traction from consumers. Flipkart has played a major role in the growth of my business, from increasing visibility through support for products, photoshoots, advertising, and guidance of dedicated account managers. For the festival of Rakshabandhan, I received great insights from the Flipkart team which has helped me increase my sales and grow my business online”, said Rahul.
