Reliance Retail, India’s largest retailer, added more than 40,000 jobs in FY2024-25, reflecting the company’s strong growth momentum and deepening national footprint. As per the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Annual Report for FY25, the employee base of Reliance Retail stood at 2,47,782 as of March 31, 2025, up from 2,07,552 a year earlier — one of the largest workforce expansions in the sector.
This surge in employment is closely tied to the company’s continued scale-up across retail formats. Despite being a year of consolidation, Reliance Retail added 2,602 new stores, taking its total store count to 19,340 and expanding its retail footprint to over 77.4 million sq. ft. across the country.
“In FY25, the business focused on a strategic recalibration of our store network, aimed at improving operational efficiencies and long-term sustainability,” Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd had stated during the financial performance announcement for quarter and year ended 31st March 2025.
But beyond expansion, Reliance Retail is also doubling down on capability building. The company noted that it continues to invest in its employees and technology for enhanced customer satisfaction. From advanced training modules to equipping staff with digital tools, Reliance Retail is focused on creating a workforce that is not only large in number, but also future-ready and customer-focused.
Employees across the company’s wide-ranging formats — from grocery and fashion to electronics, beauty and pharmacy — are being trained to deliver personalised and efficient service. This people-first, tech-enabled approach reflects the company’s broader strategy of driving growth through operational excellence and consumer experience.
The emphasis on workforce empowerment comes at a time when India’s retail sector is undergoing a shift towards omni-channel experiences, AI-led customer insights, and higher service benchmarks. By investing in both its human capital and technological backbone, Reliance Retail is positioning itself to lead this transformation from the front.
