According to a study by the National Insurance Academy, the health protection gap in India stands at 73 per cent, which is significantly high, despite increased insurance awareness. Over 40 crore individuals, constituting nearly one-third (31 per cent) of the population, lack health insurance due to lower penetration, coverage inadequacy, and rising healthcare costs, the report says. 1
