Sigma Advanced Systems Secures US$19.7 Million (Approx. ₹174 Crore) Order from North American NATO Customer for Critical 155 mm Artillery Ammunition Subsystems

Sigma Advanced Systems Limited (“Sigma”), a global aerospace and defence engineering and manufacturing company, today announced that it has secured an order valued at US$19.70 million (approximately ₹174 crore) from a North American customer serving the NATO defence ecosystem for the manufacture and supply of specialised ancillary subsystems for 155 mm artillery ammunition. The order is scheduled to be executed by Q2 2027, with manufacturing to be undertaken within the Sigma ecosystem.

The order marks Sigma’s fifth 155 mm engagement since May 2026, reflecting the steady expansion of its capabilities across the artillery ammunition value chain. With shell bodies, filled fuzes, advanced base-bleed shell technology, course-correction fuze collaboration and now ancillary subsystems within its portfolio, Sigma is progressing beyond individual ammunition component supply towards a broader manufacturing and engineering partnership across multiple elements of the artillery round.

Global rearmament is reshaping the artillery ammunition supply chain

The Russia–Ukraine war has underscored the scale of artillery ammunition demand in high-intensity conflicts. NATO members and allied governments are responding through inventory replenishment, longer-term procurement and increased manufacturing capacity. The European Union’s Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP), launched in 2024 with €500 million in funding, is one such initiative aimed at addressing production bottlenecks.

This shift creates opportunities for manufacturers capable of supporting multiple elements of the ammunition supply chain. As international customers expand production, specialised subsystems and dependable manufacturing capacity are becoming increasingly important to programme execution.

From individual components to a broader ammunition manufacturing capability

Sigma’s recent commercial wins and capability-building initiatives demonstrate its expanding presence across the 155 mm segment.

In May 2026, the company secured a US$11.4 million order for M557 filled fuzes, followed by a US$21.97 million order for M107 shell bodies in June and a US$104.9 million order for base-bleed shell bodies in July. In October, Sigma entered an exclusive MoU with Munitions India Limited for course-correction fuze technology, integration and indigenous manufacturing. The latest US$19.7 million order for ancillary subsystems further broadens its manufacturing scope beyond standalone components.

The latest order broadens Sigma’s manufacturing scope beyond standalone components. Combined with its existing shell-body and fuze capabilities, this expands its potential to address more technically complex requirements across the ammunition value chain, subject to programme qualification and customer needs.

Strengthening its role in international defence manufacturing

The order supports Sigma’s strategy of building a broader presence in international defence manufacturing. Its expanding portfolio provides a foundation to pursue adjacent requirements and engage with customers across a wider range of specialised manufacturing programmes.

Commenting on the order, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO, Sigma Advanced Systems Limited, said: “Global defence customers are looking beyond individual components to partners who can support increasingly complex manufacturing requirements across the ammunition supply chain. This calls for engineering depth, manufacturing consistency and the ability to deliver specialised products at scale.

This order builds on the capabilities Sigma has developed across the 155 mm segment and marks a further step in broadening our role in international defence manufacturing. Our focus is on building capabilities that allow us to participate in more technically demanding programmes and respond to customers’ evolving requirements. We see this engagement as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the customer and expand our contribution to the wider ammunition manufacturing ecosystem.”
