Well, this is not another of Badshah’s rap song lyrics; instead, it is a headline from a very renowned media house of this country. I salute the creativity they are putting into the news these days. I don’t know who to exactly blame because I think 2020 is a year of losing; like losing people, life, freedom, democracy, and definitely one of the most powerful and the 4th pillar of democracy “Media”. I mean we have lost the media and the media is already lost.
As much as I respect them for working so hard on the field during the whole lockdown and pandemic situation; I also feel guilty about this little fact, that they have completely forgotten humanity. I mean, have you seen Indian media lately? Its like more of a comedy show than actual “news.”
Someone is rapping while reading the news; somebody is solving a very important quiz like Rasode mein kon tha on a national channel. Someone is driving like crazy behind luxury cars of Bollywood people; and most of them are breaking the rule of social distancing and going behind people; whom they used to worship once.
Sometimes I feel like the only distancing that we need to follow is; “Distance from the media.” I am not saying I am against them or I am in support of Bollywood or anybody for that matter taking drugs. But I am definitely also not in support of ignorance of some really important topics of this country which deserve debate.
Okay let me just ask you a very simple question; when was the last time you saw the “number” of corona cases in the country? Maybe it’s just me, but it is something that I really think is true; that when the Indian media stopped talking about the coronavirus cases and started taking it lightly; is exactly when the common people also took it as a joke. Remember we are in the middle of a pandemic Guys? the same that scared us with 50 cases, but is not an issue, with 50 lakh plus cases now.
I mean, believe me, there are so many issues in this country, and so less mention of it? What about the cold war going on between China and India on the borders? What about farmers going on strike? Oh and of course what about GDP? Why are we not talking about these things? There are a lot of times when I go into this doubt “who am I talk about this? It is none of my business” and I am sure you think of that question too; but hey, we are the only people to talk about this thing, it is our business; because the ones who should talk about everything fairly is just doing Business.
More than these media houses going crazy I feel sorry for the Indian audience; tell me are we really that bored at the house? Are we really missing the Indian cinema this much that we are getting entertained by the Oscar-winning performances of these national channels? We are the reason for their TRP, they are showing what we want to see, Drama.
I am saying it again, I am not in support of anybody taking drugs, but have you ever checked even a wing of engineering college’s hostel. They have much more ganja and maal, Deepika or anybody could ever ask for.
And while I really appreciate this that we are now talking about this and change start from somewhere, and if it will get clear from the Bollywood industry then soon the whole nation will be drugs free, etc, I still have a doubt that does the nation really wants to know at which floor Deepika lives or when her flight landed, what is the color of the dress she is wearing today or what Rhea ate in the jail today? Where the hell we lost the track of suhant’s case, did he already got the justice? What happened to CBI? Where are we, and what kind of show we are looking at every night in the name of “Prime shows.” Aren’t the media channels realizing that they represent the country globally and they represent to the country as well. What sort of news they are showing.
Well, there is so much that is going on, and we are blind to it, but at the same time I am very glad that not everybody is blind and people now have finally started talking about how stupid media is reacting on social media. I am very happy that some people have started this initiative of spreading the actual news on social media, so that those news get the attention too. Glad we have meme pages who are finally taking stand against these so called news channel.
I still strongly believe in media; I am sort of a part of it, all of us are, it is a very powerful medium. But if this goes on for few more days now; I will surely get worried about the coming generation and the elder ones who are already locked in a trap of Fake WhatsApp news and these news channels.
Before I leave and go watch what Breaking News they have today on Karan Johar; I just want everybody to realize that we are in the middle of a pandemic and the media has already contributed a lot in spreading the negativity; so lets just for a while taking a break and see the reality and see the actual problems ourselves. Like every life matter, every problem matters too “Equally.”
