On Saturday, Kerala CEO Pinarayi Vijayan dedicated 90 schools to protecting the public education system in the State, as centres of excellence. Vijayan also laid the foundation stones for 54 school buildings which would be built during this campaign.
“Of the 90 Centers of Excellence, four buildings were constructed at the expense of Rs 5 crore, with funding from KIIFB, 20 buildings were built at Rs 3 crore cost; 62 were buildings built using plan funds, and 4 buildings built with assistance from NABARD. 34 new buildings, according to the Chief Minister, are designed on a Rs 3 crore basis.
The neighbourhoods of Pathanamthitta and Kasaragod have two new colleges. Kottayam and Ernakulam were both devoted to three schools. Wayanad district has four schools, while Idukki has five schools. Idukki Kollam and Palakkad each have six schools, while Kozhikode has nine schools.
Three school structures in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottaiam, Palakkad and Kasaragode were under construction in three schools, while four are being built in Pathanamthitta. Thrissur district, with eleven schools, 10 schools each in Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram.
In Ernakulam two school buildings are being built while seven in Malappuram. Nine buildings are being constructed in Kozhikode and seventeen school buildings are being constructed.
“The changes in the field of school education were implemented keeping in mind the next generation. In the past, society discussed the closure of government schools but now that they have become centres of excellence, the number of students coming to study here has also increased. Five lakh new students have joined government schools in the last three years”, the CM added.
