Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the administration of Ministry of Power has been illuminating the streets of Rajasthan with its energy efficient LED streetlights. As of today, the company has successfully installed over 1 million streetlights in the state, enabling a total energy saving of 219.37 MUs per year and monetary saving of INR 186.47 Cr. per year, in electricity bills per year. The company has maintained 95% uptime for these smart streetlights with the help of its Centralized Control Monitoring System (CCMS). This has further increased the overall visibility on the roads and enhanced road safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.
In Rajasthan, the Streetlighting National Programme (SLNP) was initiated in the year 2015. As part of the programme, inefficient lights are replaced with energy efficient LED Lights which have better output and durability. These replaced LED lights are then linked to a central control and monitoring system which provides seamless monitoring and repairing of lights. Thus, reducing dark spots in the region.
Mr. Adesh Saxena, Add. General Manager, EESL, said, “We take pride in our Streetlighting National Programme (SLNP) and the impact it has created by illuminating the roads of Rajasthan with efficient LED streetlights. I am grateful to our regional teams and ULBs in the state for ensuring smooth functioning of streetlights by providing necessary assistance for consistent monitoring and repair support for streetlights. We could have reached this far without their resilience and consistent support. Our vision is to cover every nook and corner of the state with energy efficient lighting that not only provides better visibility to citizens and tourists, but also helps reduce the risk of road accidents. With this energy efficient lighting, we foresee a brighter future for the state Rajasthan and its citizens.”
Energy conservation efforts of EESL have also been acknowledged by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) – a State Designated Agency (SDA) for enforcement of provisions of Energy Conservation Act 2001. On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day on December 14, EESL received a Rajasthan Energy Conservation Award Certificate in the Government Department category. The company has received this award for the 7 th consecutive year. The certificate is a recognition of EESL’s relentless efforts for implementing energy efficiency initiatives in the state.
Speaking of the maintenance and operations of streetlights in Rajasthan, EESL has a dedicated Complaint Handling System (CHS)which enables the on-ground teams to address all complaints within a timeframe of 48 hours. There is also an Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) and Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) pozrtals where customers and state-level authorities can give feedback and report concerns related to the functioning of streetlights.
Additionally, complaints and concerns can be filed offline as well. Till date, over13 million LED streetlights have been installed across rural and urban India. This has helped in estimated energy savings of 8.54 billion kWh per year with GHG emission reduction of over 6 million tonnes carbon dioxide and monetary savings of INR 5,974 crore in electricity bills of municipalities per year. In addition to LED streetlights, EESL is also promoting the installation of smart meters and energy efficient agricultural pumps in the state.
