Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), in partnership with USAID, co-hosted a pivotal session on ‘Market Transformation for Super-Efficient Appliances’; at the South Asia Clean
Energy Forum (SACEF 2024) in Jaipur. The session highlighted the urgent need for regional cooperation among South Asian countries to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient appliances. This initiative aligns with EESL’s long-standing mission to transform markets through energy-efficient solutions, leveraging its innovative business models.
In his keynote address, Vishal Kapoor, CEO of EESL, said, “A recent report reveals that just 20 basic appliances consume 45% of the world’s energy. This statistic underscores a huge untapped potential for energy savings. If nearly half of the world’s energy is consumed by these appliances, then investing in reducing their energy consumption could
significantly benefit countries, especially in South Asia. As growing economies in the South Asia region, we are expanding infrastructure and improving the quality of life. Rising income levels mean more people are purchasing appliances, leading to an increase in energy demand. Given this, it is crucial that the surge in appliance ownership is met with
energy-efficient products.”
In the opening remarks, Apurva Chaturvedi, Senior Clean Energy Specialist, USAID said, “In India, we have been collaborating with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for a significant period, almost since the company’s inception. Currently, our focus is on their Super-Efficient Air Conditioning Programme, which has introduced air conditioners that are 25 to 30 percent more efficient than the typical five-star-rated units. These air conditioners are offered at nearly the same price as the five-star models, resolving the affordability challenge through EESL’s innovative business model. Our efforts with them also extend to demand creation and stimulating broader adoption.”
