Alwar Hosts Legal Awareness Programme Honouring Yuvrani Mahendra Kumari

A Legal Awareness and Women’s Rights programme was organised in Alwar by Baijilal Janaki Kumari and Baijilal Manavika Kumari, in collaboration with Samhali Trust, to mark the birth anniversary of Yuvrani Mahendra Kumari, former Member of Parliament from the city. The programme brought together over 100 law students, practising lawyers and legal interns for focused discussions on law, rights and public engagement.

The conclave featured eight speakers and addressed themes related to women’s empowerment, civic responsibility and heritage conservation through structured sessions and interactive student engagement.

Baijilal Manavika Kumari spoke on financial independence for women and government welfare schemes, while Baijilal Janaki Kumari addressed the audience on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and heritage preservation. “Alwar’s heritage and its people are deeply connected. By introducing students to Public Interest Litigation and heritage preservation, we hope to inspire the youth to actively participate in protecting both our cultural legacy and civic rights,” said Janaki Kumari.

Representatives from Samhali Trust, Jodhpur, conducted sessions on workplace harassment and labour rights, cyber safety and online harassment and domestic violence and child protection. The speakers included Dr. Deepti Sharma, Advocate Teena Vishnoi and Ayushraj Rathore.

Further legal perspectives were shared by Shri Manoj Kumar Yadav, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Alwar, who spoke on free legal aid and Shri Mahesh Gothwal, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Alwar, who explained provisions of the POCSO Act. Advocate Chavi Lazarus of the Delhi High Court encouraged students to pursue careers in law focused on public service and social impact.

The programme saw strong youth participation, with several attendees expressing interest in future outreach and volunteer initiatives.

Lunch was hosted at a heritage venue, marking a rare instance of the space being opened for a public-oriented educational gathering.

The programme concluded with a tribute to Yuvrani Mahendra Kumari’s legacy in women’s empowerment and public service.
