The International Road Federation – India Chapter (IRF–IC), with support from Hero MotoCorp under its road safety initiatives, has completed Safe School Zone interventions at four schools in Jaipur, strengthening efforts to create safer road environments for schoolchildren and other vulnerable road users.
The programme addressed road safety risks around schools through systematic safety audits and targeted engineering improvements, in accordance with Indian Roads Congress guidelines .
The initiative covered PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Jhalana; Shri Mahaveer Digamber Jain Senior Secondary School, C-Scheme; Cambridge Court High School, Mansarovar; and Shaheed Punit Nath Dutt Government Senior Secondary School, Sanganer.
The interventions included high-visibility pedestrian crossings, school zone signage, speed-reduction pavement markings, road studs and traffic-calming measures to improve driver awareness and pedestrian safety. The programme was undertaken in coordination with the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA).
The initiative was inaugurated on September at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Jhalana, in the presence of representatives from Hero MotoCorp, Mr. K. K. Kapila, Founder President, IRF–IC, and the school principal.
Students and representatives from all four participating schools took part in a drawing competition and nukkad nataks (street plays) promoting road safety awareness and responsible road-user behaviour.
The initiative highlights the importance of combining road safety education with practical infrastructure improvements. Sustained impact will depend on regular maintenance, enforcement of speed limits and parking restrictions, and safe pick-up and drop-off practices.
IRF–IC acknowledged the support of Hero MotoCorp, the Jaipur Development Authority and the participating schools. The programme also provides a replicable model for extending evidence-based school zone safety interventions to other cities across India.
“Every child deserves a safe journey to school. Through safer infrastructure, awareness and collaborative action, IRF–IC remains committed to protecting children on their daily journeys.” said Mr K K Kalia, president emeritus , International Road Federation .
