Transforming Agriculture: Rasi Mitra’s Impact in North India

The Rasi Mitra program, an initiative by Rasi Seeds, is an important CRM program designed playing an important role in Knowledge and skill sharing platform with key influential farmers to adopt latest farm practices to overcome some of the most pressing challenges faced by farmers in North India. Unpredictable yields, erratic weather patterns, emerging pest and diseases and the limitations of traditional farming methods have long plagued the agricultural sector in the region. Rasi Mitra is stepping in to offer practical, science-backed solutions that are transforming the landscape.

With over 10,000 farmers enrolled nationwide, including 464 in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, the programme is making a significant impact. In Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab, Rasi Mitra is providing personalised advice, enabling farmers to adapt to local conditions and optimise their practices.

The program’s impact was recently recognised with the ‘Extension & Training Excellence Award at the Sustainable Agriculture Summit &Awards 2024’, held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The award acknowledges the role of Rasi Mitra in equipping farmers with the knowledge and skills necessary to overcome challenges and thrive in today’s agricultural landscape.

Rasi Mitra focuses on enhancing the overall efficiency of farming practices. Many farmers have traditionally relied on methods passed down through generations, which, while valuable, often lack the technological advancements necessary to meet the demands of modern agriculture. Rasi Mitra bridges this gap by providing farmers with personalised agronomic advice, allowing them to optimise their farming techniques. This includes guidance on best practices for sowing, irrigation, pest management, and nutrient application, all aimed at maximising crop potential and profitability.

For instance, farmers like Avatar Singh from Mansa, Punjab have seen significant improvements in their farming outcomes since joining Rasi Mitra. “We used to struggle with inconsistent yields and high production costs due to outdated methods. Rasi Mitra introduced us to advanced techniques that have stabilised our yields and reduced our
expenses, making farming more sustainable and profitable,” he says.

Another critical issue being addressed by Rasi Mitra is the high cost of inputs, which often eats into farmers’ profits. By providing access to cost-effective, high-quality seeds and offering strategies to optimise input use, Rasi Mitra helps farmers reduce their overall production costs. Nakhstar Singh  from Hanumangarh in North Rajasthan highlights this impact: “Rasi Mitra’s guidance has allowed us to manage our resources more efficiently, reducing costs and increasing our returns. This has made a real difference in the sustainability of our farming practices.”

Sathyanarayana Rao H G, Head of Marketing, Cotton Business at Rasi Seeds, said, “Rasi Mitra has not only enhanced the agricultural expertise of enrolled farmers but has also created a ripple effect, positively influencing the broader agricultural ecosystem across India. It nurtures a community of knowledgeable farmers who share insights for the greater good, and sustainable Agri practices for future.”

Beyond individual success stories, Rasi Mitra is promoting a sense of community among farmers, encouraging knowledge-sharing and collaboration. This collective approach is crucial in building resilience across the agricultural sector in North India, as farmers learn from each other’s experiences and successes.

Rasi Mitra continues to be a driving force in North India, helping farmers navigate the complexities of modern agriculture, overcome traditional challenges, and build a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region’s farming communities.
