According to data.ai , Meesho was the #1 shopping app in India, recording an impressive 14.5 crore app downloads in 2023*. Each user spent a whopping 449 minutes on the app shopping for their favorite items across a diverse array of offerings.
With e-commerce gaining steadfast momentum in tier 2+ markets, Meesho decodes India’s shopping cart:
● The Real Baazigar: There was no stopping a customer from Surat, Gujarat with a fondness for jewelry, who clinches the title for most orders placed on the platform- over 20,000 orders and counting!
● It’s Good To Be Home: A growing desire for home improvement saw customers invest in furniture, fixtures and home decor to adorn their homes. As a category, Home Decor has grown 60% YoY. From torans and diyas, to the enchantment of Christmas, the enthusiasm for festive decor is shining brightly among Indian shoppers from Bhagalpur, Dindigul, Jorhat
and Shahdol.
● Strap & Style: With more than 25,000 smartwatches sold every day, customers are rapidly making the switch from traditional watches to smartwatches. Specifically, customers from tier 2+ cities such as Chittoor, Dimapur, Palwal and Satara are increasingly opting for smartwatches, signaling a growing trend in the adoption of wearable technology.
● Fit India Movement: The demand for fitness equipment has grown by 55%, with orders pouring in from cities such as Chandpur, Karwar, Pathankot and Ratnagiri. Customers are buying dumbbells, yoga mats, exercise rings and balls, among others.
● Flying Off The Shelves: India bought more than 3 lakh kurtis, 39,000 bluetooth headphones and 21,000 bedsheets every day! Gujarat tuned into bluetooth earphones, Himachal Pradesh snapped up mobile cases and covers, Karnataka stocked up on wallpapers and Orissa indulged in hair oils.
● Meesho To The Rescue: More than 67 lakh customers turned to Meesho to shop for hair fall control remedies. As awareness around self-care deepens, there is a discernible shift in consumer habits, with Beauty & Personal Care witnessing a 40% surge in growth.
● Sunday Spree: Upholding the tradition of ‘Parampara, Pratishtha, Anushasan’, Indian shoppers have consistently crowned Sundays as the ultimate shopping day for two consecutive years, beginning with an early bird rush at 7 AM and culminating in the wee hours at 3 AM.
Our sellers are breaking all records
● Kaun (nahi) Banega Crorepati?: Nearly 10,000 Meesho sellers became crorepatis and 130,000 became lakhpatis in 2023. 60% of these sellers come from small towns like Avinashi, Bharuch, Fiazabad and Silchar.
● Welcoming Non-GST Sellers: Highlighting Meesho’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, the platform welcomed nearly 25,000 non-GST sellers in 2 months. These sellers have added over 1 lakh unique product listings to the platform.
● Seller Spotlight: Nearly 75,000 sellers achieved double digit growth on Meesho, while more than 20,000 sellers witnessed a 10X surge in their businesses.
This year, Meesho was the first horizontal Indian e-commerce company to turn profitable. Since announcing profitability in July, the company continues to remain profitable and cash flow positive.
