The country lost another gem by the deadly virus. Bollywood lost, SP Balasubrahmanyam, on 25th September. The Veteran singer recorded 40, 000 songs in 16 languages throughout his journey; and left as one of the best singers the country ever had.
He made his playback singing debut in 1966 for the Kannada film, ‘Nakkare Ade Swarga’; followed by his Telugu debut with ‘Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna’. He recorded his first Tamil song ‘Athaanodu Ippadi Irundhu Eththanai Naalaachu’; a duet with LR Eswari, composed by MS Viswanathan, for the film ‘Hotel Ramba’, which never got released. Nevertheless, his songs with P Susheela ‘Iyarkai Ennum Ilaya Kanni’ in the 1969 film ‘Shanti Nilayam’; ‘Aayiram Nilavae Vaa’ for MGR in ‘Adimaippenn’, became famous.
In 1981, he made his Hindi debut with the film ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’ and received a National Award for the song ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’. He had sung several songs, and even made his comeback after a 15-year hiatus with ‘Chennai Express’.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say here that the era of 1990’s belonged to SP Balasubrahmanyam. In 1990s, he worked with several other composers like Vidyasagar M, SA Rajkumar, Deva and MM Keeravani.
He was the voice for Salman khan for several and the whole country loved this duo. After the success of Salman’s romantic musical drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989); in which SPB sang all the songs for Salman. SPB went on to sing for Salman in films like; Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Patthar Ke Phool, Love, Saajan, and Andaz Apna Apna. The songs in these films were chartbusters.
Yes, we have lost another legend this year; but his voice and work will always stay with people in their hearts. #RIPSPB
